Reigning MVP Kiefer Ravena was in his usual a-game, but in their second stint, Ateneo’s prized rookies have finally showed their wares as the Blue Eagles entered the win column with an 84-60 drubbing of the winless Adamson Falcons in UAAP men’s basketball action Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The graduating Ravena led the Ateneo with 24 points to stand as the league’s leading scorer but the rookie trio of Aaron Black, Matt Nietes, and Jerie Pingoy combined for 28 points after a forgettable debut against Far Eastern University last September 6.

After a tight first half, the Blue Eagles exploded for 28 points in the third quarter, firing five triples and blocking four shots. The quarter ended with Ravena scoring only four points but with his team up, 62-48.

Ateneo never looked back in the fourth quarter, scoring baskets after baskets, opening a 16-5 run with quick baskets capped by Ravena’s breakaway slam.

The Blue Eagles are now at 1-1 while the Falcons, led by African behemoth Papi Sarr (13 points and 14 rebounds) and pint-size spitfire Joseph Nalos (10 points and seven assists) are winless in two games.
