As a brand new chapter for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) unfolded on Sunday with the start of its 40th season, the league picked the biggest venue in the country for their biggest opening ceremonies — the Phlippine Arena.
The venue, which was inaugurated during Iglesia ni Cristo’s centennial last July 21, boasts a full-house seating capacity of 55,000 — more than twice of the Araneta Coliseum, the traditional opening venue of Asia’s first pay-for-play league.
FCF sports editor Diego de la Paz was on hand for the historic event, taking some breathtaking wide-angle interior shots of the venue prior to the opening rites.
