UAAP Season 77: FEU coach Nash Racela delighted over record attendance

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) experienced a record breaking gate attendance coming from two unlikely sources.

In a basketball tournament perennially dominated by traditional crowd-drawers Ateneo and La Salle, the crowds of both Far Eastern University (FEU) and National University combined for a total of 25,000 inside the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Game Two of the UAAP men’s basketball finals Wednesday.

This topped the attendance of past cheerdance competitions and men’s basketball finals.

This record delighted FEU head coach Nash Racela, saying that this delivers a message to the UAAP community.

“We must be thankful for both the FEU and NU communities because it proves that any of the member schools can deliver a big crowd,” Racela told Fullcourtfresh.com.

He added that the UAAP is beyond Ateneo and La Salle.

“I think this goes to show that hindi lang puro sila, alam mo na yun (it is not only them, you know),” he quipped.

He added that the FEU-NU finals should pave the way for “equal chances” among all eight member schools to excel in Season 78.
