The Philippines washed out Chinese Taipei, 5-1, to advance to the finals of the 2014 Philippine Football Federation Peace Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Earlier, Myanmar wiped away a less-than stellar Palestine XI, 4-1, to grab the other seat in the title showdown.
UFL league golden boot winner Mark Hartmann, who came in as a substitute for Phil Younghusband in the 70th minute, scored a brace as part of the team’s closers.
In the first half, captain Rob Gier (25th minute) and James Younghusband (37th minute) opened the scoring for the Philippines – eyeing its third straight title in the tournament.
But heavy downpours and thunderstorms at the 57th minute forced the game officials to put a one-hour halt to the contest.
Just eight minutes after play resumed, Chen Yi Wei accidentally slotted in a clearance attempt inside the box to extend the Philippines’ lead to 3-0.
Then, Hartmann put the game out of reach with the team’s fourth goal in the 74th minute off Curt Dizon’s pass inside the box for a powerful volley to the back of the net.
However, a lazy clearance pass by Roland Muller to Jason de Jong allowed Yen Ho-Shen to score a consolation for Chinese Taipei in the 80th minute.
