De La Salle University remains unscathed in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament, waylaying Far Eastern University, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16, in Sunday’s matchup at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Spikers, avenging their loss against the Lady Tamaraws in the semifinals of last year’s University Games, have not dropped a set this tournament.
Reigning MVP Ara Galang rallied the Lady Spikers with 18 points, 17 of which came from spikes. Skipper Abigail Marano scored 10 points. None of the Lady Tamaraws scored in double digits with Geneveve Casugod leading the squad in terms of scoring with 8 points, 3 of which came from blocks.
The Lady Tamaraws tried to cut the deficit after dropping the first set, thanks to efforts from Marie Simborio, Bernadette Pons and Mary Palma, but Ara Galang proved to everyone once again why she’s the reigning MVP with crucial and demoralizing hits. Marano and Reyes also strutted their dominance in the frontline with 8 combined blocks.

Before the end of every set, the Lady Tamaraws managed to sneak in a couple of points thanks to the Lady Spikers’ sudden clumsy defense.
Coach Ramil de Jesus stressed that most of the team are still young, making them prone to errors. He also stressed out that the team still has to get rid of supposedly “bad habits” that lead them to giving the opponents extra points.
“Tawag lang naman yan. Pero makikita mo naman yung Ateneo ngayon na maganda ang ginagalaw considering marami ring bago so di mo rin pwedeng baliwalain. Lahat naman ng teams dapat paghandaan”, said De Jesus.

Earlier, Adamson University needed four sets to dispose of University of the East, 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-10, to gain their third win of the tournament.
After taking the first set, 25 – 23, the Lady Warriors fell into a downhill slope of errors as the Lady Falcons took control behind Shiela Pineda’s 17 points. Rookie Mylene Paat and Veteran Amanda Villanueva combined for 26 points with 13 contributions each. Shaya Adorador, on the other hand, top scored the Lady Warriors with 13 points.
