Aside from being the first one to run towards the court after the buzzer sounded in their championship win against Letran, San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez has also been a first-time winner in most of his basketball coaching endeavors.

He has won a PBA title with the Sta. Lucia Realtors in the 2007 All-Filipino Cup, four PBA D-League titles with NLEX from 2011 to 2013, and has now added a collegiate title under his head coaching resume.

“I’m just happy that I won this one, and I love this school,” said Fernandez. “Masarap palang mag-champion sa college. Lahat ng tao, mga alumni mamahalin ka.”

Fernandez is the fourth San Beda head coach to steer the squad to their seventh title in eight years, following the footsteps of Koy Banal, Frankie Lim, and Ronnie Magsanoc.
