San Beda College’s number one standing in the NCAA seniors basketball tournament has been put into peril, following a recent complaint filed against one of its players for violating a league rule.

sidebar-ncaa89In a statement to the press immediately following a lengthy Management Committee (MANCOM) meeting attended by the league’s stakeholders at The Arena in San Juan City on Tuesday night, chairman Dax Castellano of Benilde said that the MANCOM has launched a probe amidst numerous reports that Red Lions guard Ryusei Koga played in another league while the league’s 89th season hoops wars is ongoing.

“We’re still in the process of investigating on this (matter). Allegations pa lang naman,” said Castellano in his opening statement.

Despite the said reports being allegations, the league has until October 31 to present their findings on the formal protest filed by a member school.

Also, the league’s representatives kept mum on the same member school that presented the audio-visual materials linking to Koga’s involvement outside the league during the two-hour meeting that commenced following the Perpetual Help-San Sebastian playoff match in the seniors division.

Should the league find enough merit to penalize the league-leading Red Lions (15-3) following the investigation, they will forefeit four of their wins participated by Koga from September 17. In effect, Letran will gain the number one seed and will face the three-time defending champions with the twice-to-beat advantage.

The league’s Final Four playoffs will commence on November 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
