Supersub Misagh Bahadoran and Javier Patino were the heroes of the Azkals’ 2018 World Cup Opener on Thursday as the PHL XI beat Bahrain 2-1 at the Philippine Sports Stadium.

Bahadoran, who came in for Stephan Shrock at the 24th minute, broke the deadlock at the 51st minute, with Patino following up with his own strike nine minutes later.

Bahrain could only muster a consolation goal by Abdulwahab Al Malood before the final whistle.

The Philippines got three points from its victory. They will soon face Yemen, Uzbekistan, and North Korea in Group H of the qualifiers.
